Metric Retaining Rings are unthreaded fasteners used to hold components in place in an assembly. Retaining rings are spring steel rings that are installed onto a groove on a shaft or a groove inside a round housing with the use of a tool called retaining ring pliers. Once installed a portion of the ring remains exposed outside of the groove and acts as a shoulder which secures the assembly in place.
