| 12/2/2005 - "Joseph A. Voves, President
and Founder of Metric & Multistandard Components Corp. to retire at the end
of 2005" |
|
Mr. Joseph A. Voves will retire as President of Metric & Multistandard
Components Corp. at the end of 2005. Mr. Voves founded Metric &
Multistandard in 1963 with partners Milan Peske and Alois Hacaj. The company's
commitment to outstanding customer service is much attributed to Mr. Voves'
belief that hard work and personal attention to details will gain you customers
for life. The business remains strong and is owned by the same three families
today.
Mr. Voves began his working career in Europe in the hotel business. After
escaping from the communist takeover of his homeland (the former nation of
Czechoslovakia) at the end of WWII, he studied in France and worked in Germany
and Italy -- ultimately earning a job in Ethiopia in 1955 managing the
Ethiopian National Hotel Company and reporting directly to the Ministry of
Finance and the Emperor Haile Selassie. It was in Ethiopia that Mr. Voves met
his future business partners who, ironically, were also originally from
Czechoslovakia. Mr. Voves is fluent in nine languages as a result of his many
worldly travels. He has been a devout Rotarian for decades -- twice past
President and New York District Governor. Still very active at age 84, Mr.
Voves enjoys outdoor activities like skiing and gardening and spending time
with his 11 grandchildren.

| 8/29/2005 - "REACH, RoHS & WEEE
Compliance" |
|
Thank you for inquiring about Metric & Multistandard’s commitment to full
compliance with the European environmental initiatives. As a responsible
corporate citizen of the world, MMCC is taking an aggressive lead at making
sure that both our company and the manufacturing firms that we represent, meet
all of the new requirements as outlined below.
In January 2003 the European Union passed two directives restricting the use of
certain hazardous substance (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipment and
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). These directives were put
into force in February 2004 giving manufacturers one additional year to become
compliant. In the EU the date of compliance is set for July 2006.
Some of the substances in these directives are lead, mercury, cadmium, and
hexavalent chromium and two families of brominated flame retardants –
polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDE).None of
which will be allowed in the manufacture of electrical and electronic products
shipped into the European Union as of July 2006. According to the Health &
Safety Executive Laboratory (HSE Lab), the official UK organization responsible
for regulating all aspects of health and safety, along with the UK Dept. of
Trade & Industry and other European Chemists the issues are still open and
inconclusive. In Hexavalent plating, the hexavalent chrome is carcinogenic to
humans but the danger does not come from the plated item itself -- rather to
the health of the workers at the processing plant itself.
Metric & Multistandard is an importer and distributor of Metric Industrial
supplies. We are not a manufacturer, nor do we have the ability to electroplate
finished products at any of our facilities. We rely upon our international
manufacturers and suppliers, virtually all of whom are ISO 9000 certified and
party to the EU environmental regulations, to provide us with compliant parts.
In the fastener industry, although we try to turn our annual inventory several
times in a given year, there are many parts maintained in large quantities
along with numerous items with a small turnover that are already in the supply
chain. Our fastener products are generic, made to internationally recognized
ISO consensus standards without any bias towards specific purpose, industry or
destination. Although we say with good certainty that all new products being
imported from our manufacturing sources is fully compliant with the hexavalent
requirements noted above, it is impossible for any importer in our industry to
offer a blanket statement indicating total compliance to this evolving issue.
In the interim, if your organization needs to evaluate and qualify each
individual part purchased from our inventory, it can be done at some reasonable
expense. MMCC will look at each request item by item and offer separate quotes
and lead times on those parts that need to be certified as meeting the EU
directives.
Thank you again for your interest in our company and our products.

| 7/25/2005 - "Chicago Warehouse Expansion" |
|
|
Our facility in Chicago has just completed a major expansion of both their
warehouse and office space. Now having more than 30,000 square feet, this
office is well equipped not only to serve customers in the mid-west, but also
to function as a new direct import site from overseas suppliers. New pallet
racks will allow for efficient use of the total square footage. The Chicago
branch is the oldest of the 4 MMCC branches. First established in 1975 in
Lyons, IL, this recent expansion is the 4th major increase in capacity since
its inception. For more details, please contact Branch Managers Rich Cavoto
(rcavoto@metricmcc.com) or Nancy Novak (nnovak@metricmcc.com). Their direct
toll free number is (800) 221-4469.
